The conference ‘Encuentro Internacional de Arqueología Amazónica’ (translated: Meeting of Amazonian Archaeology) on the 20th September 2025 brought together international experts from South America, North America, and Europe to discuss the settlement of South America and cultural development in the Amazon. Topics included ancient agricultural technologies, the impact of climate change, landscape transformation, the development of art and technology, and the diversity of cultural patterns.
Our team members Michael Ziegler, Laura Furquim, Patrick Roberts, Victor Andrade, and Mariya Antonosyan contributed to this important discussions and organised the session: “Perspectives from the Global South for the Anthropocene Crisis: Engaging Historical and Traditional Knowledge towards COP-30”. As part of this session, our member Freg Stokes gave the presentation: “Resistência indígena, conflito civil e desmatamento na Amazônia Ocidental”.
